Male servers at ‘Union Local 613’ to work in heels, short skirts to highlight gender discrimination

OTTAWA – The men working at a downtown restaurant are set to wear skirts and heels to highlight gender discrimination issues for wait-staff in the restaurant industry.

Owner Operator of Union Local 613, Ivan Gedz, says the idea is to raise awareness of the dress code differences for men and women in the service industry.

The restaurant’s Facebook page has many positive comments about the event, though some say wearing heels and miniskirts is a ‘choice’ female servers make.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission recently called for an end to sexualized dress codes that discriminate based on gender.
