Ottawa Muslim Association covering funeral costs for Abdirahman Abdi

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Muslim Association has offered to cover the full cost of a funeral to help the family of Abdirahman Abdi.
OMA Vice President Ahmed Ibrahim tells 1310 NEWS, they’ve reached out to Abdi’s family and Ottawa Police to see how they could help.
Friends and family will say goodbye to Abdirahman Friday at the Ottawa Mosque off Scott Street.
Abdi’s family, who had opened a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs, said they would now be fundraising to cover their legal bills.
Abdi died is hospital Monday, one day after a confrontation with Ottawa Police.
“What happened is very concerning to our community,” Ibrahim said. “However, we trust our police forces, we trust the system.”
Ibrahim says they believe the SIU will conduct a fair investigation into Abdi’s death.
