Horrifying prison video of teenager Ashley Smith prompted motivating memos to guards

The head of Canada’s federal prisons admitted in internal memos that the treatment of Ashley Smith was below standard.
However, in a recent morale-boosting memo to prison guards, Don Head says the treatment of the teenage girl was an aberration, not the norm.
The memo came after the release of the horrifying video of Smith being taped-up and drugged.
There is also a papertrail showing that the government was attempting to control the messages being put out in the media.
Senior officials sent our specific orders that any spokesperson on the issue stick to the pre-approved messaging.
A long-awaited inquest into Smith’s in-custody choking death begins this week.
