Merivale Mall Shoppers Drug Mart employee tests positive for COVID-19

Shopper Drug Mart says it is taking measures to minimize the risk for customers and employees. 

In an emailed statement, Catherine Thomas, director of external communications, stated: “We are reaching out to the local public health team and have taken a number of steps to minimize risk, including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the store. The store was also closed for a thorough cleaning. Additionally, employees who worked closely with this individual are now at home in self-isolation, monitoring for any symptoms.”

Shoppers also wants to assure customers and employees that they take their safety very seriously and will work with the local public health team on any further directions.

Shoppers is asking anyone who has visited the store to contact Ottawa Public Health at 613-580-6744.

An employee who works at Shopper Drug Mart at the Merivale Mall location has tested positive for the virus, Coun. Rick Chiarelli has confirmed. 

Anyone who was at the store on Thursday, March 26 is asked to contact the the location.

Customers were sent an email informing them of the positive test result.

 

 

“I want to thank Shoppers Drug Mart for disseminating this information and our thoughts are with the staff at Shoppers Merivale Mall,” Chiarelli wrote on Twitter Saturday.

Ottawa Matters has reached out to Shoppers Drug Mart's corporate office and Merivale Mall location for comment, but has not yet received a response.
