Residents are concerned about public safety after a weekend coyote attack saw a dog killed in front of horrified onlookers at Riverside Park.
Riley Brockington, the city councillor for River Ward, told The Rob Snow Show on Tuesday, Sept. 13, that parents are worried that if it could happen to a pet, it could happen to their child.
On Monday, Sept. 12, a local school had to close during recess due to a coyote sighting in the schoolyard, Brockington said.
“We need a smart approach here,” he said. “And, of course, the goal is to keep the public safe.”
He added that he's working with the City on a plan moving forward and that a contractor has been hired to make immediate recommendations.
“This isn't a River ward issue, multiple wards, including urban wards have coyotes,” he said.
