Fire closes Centretown streets, just north of 417

Up to 11 people have been displaced by a fire on Catherine Street in Centretown.

Catherine Street and Argyle Street are closed between O'Connor Street and Bank Street. The Ottawa Police Service is asking residents to avoid the area.

The two-alarm fire at 129 Catherine Street was reported just after 3 p.m., Wednesday.

Salvation Army and Ottawa Red Cross officials are on the scene to assist the displaced residents.

There has been no word on potential injuries, how much damage has been done, or how the fire may have started.
