Plans to rebuild ByWard Market fire-ravaged restaurant pass first hurdle

By Jason White

The plans to redevelop the site of a devastating fire in the ByWard Market have made it through the first step in the approvals process.

The city's Built Heritage Sub-Committee approved the plan to rebuild the facade of Vittoria Trattoria, on William Street, and add a four-storey addition onto the rear of the structure.

The rebuilt structure will include a restaurant on the ground floor with apartments above.

Vittoria Trattoria was destroyed by a major fire in April 2019.

The proposal now goes on to the planning committee and then city council.
