Ottawa Public Health warning about possible COVID-19 exposure at Mavericks

By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is investigating a possible COVID-19 exposure after two people who tested positive for COVID-19 attended the 'Back from the Dead' Halloween event at Mavericks on Rideau Street.

The health unit says the pair were at the Saturday, October 30 event while contagious.

Anyone who was at Mavericks between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. that night may have been exposed to COVID-19.

OPH has assessed the nature of the event and determined that there were several opportunities for transmission to happen.

Anyone who was at Mavericks on Saturday night is asked to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 10 days and follow these instructions:

  • If you develop any COVID-19 symptoms, you should immediately self-isolate and seek testing even if you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. A list of testing sites in Ottawa is available on our website. When you present for testing, please provide the following testing number: 490723.
  • If you are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, you do not need to seek testing or isolate unless otherwise notified by Ottawa Public Health.
  • If you attended this event and have questions regarding this possible exposure to COVID-19, please visit OttawaPublicHealth.ca/Mavericks for more information. If you have further questions, call Ottawa Public Health to speak with a public health nurse at 613-580-6744.

While OPH does not typically disclose the location of possible COVID-19 exposures to protect individuals’ privacy, it says this information is disclosed when needed to meet public health objectives such as prompt notification of potential contacts and reducing the risk of further transmission.
