Snowsuit Fund’s Snow Angel Challenge keeping kids warm following January’s frigid wintry weather blast

The Snowsuit Fund is inviting Ottawa residents to get outdoors and have some fun for a good cause.
The second annual Snow Angel Challenge encourages members of the community to create snow angels, gather donations and share their results on social media.
The 28-day challenge runs throughout February as a way to help the Snowsuit Fund keep Ottawa kids warm throughout the winter months.
Co-Chair of the challenge, Mike Leggett, tells CityNews' The Sam Laprade Show, there is a need for warm clothing right now, and this also encourages people to spend time outdoors, which is good for mental health.
“We want our children to get out,” Leggett said. “COVID has made a lot of people stay at home, and for mental health, it's great to get outside. Many of these children can't get outside, particularly with the weather we've had lately.”
Hundreds of people from across the city made snow angels during last year's inaugural challenge — in their winter gear, bathing suits, costumes, or even with their pets. More than $50,000 was raised, which went directly to the purchase of 1,000 new snowsuits.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is one of many residents looking forward to this year's challenge, set to make his snow angel on camera on Tuesday, February 18.
