Ottawa Hospital opens new COVID-19 clinical assessment centre

A new clinical assessment centre is opening in Ottawa to help alleviate hospital capacity during COVID-19 times.

The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) announced the opening of its new centre on Wednesday, February 2, which is intended to help manage the pressures and demands of hospital inpatient and outpatient units, it said.

The centre, which is funded by Ontario Health, will provide care for patients with known or suspected COVID-19 infections who:

  • are experiencing respiratory illness, in which the symptoms cannot be safely managed at home;
  • cannot access their family physician, but do not require emergency services.

The site is operated by TOH staff and physicians, who will work in conjunction with family physicians.

It will provide support by offering basic diagnostic tests, like X-ray, ECGs and basic bloodwork, as well as referrals to IV therapy and antivirals.

To book an appointment at the TOH Clinic Assessment Centre, call 613-798-5555 ext. 19507.

The centre is located near the TOH's Civic campus and will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday for booked appointments.

People are asked not to bring children or other healthy members of the community with them to their appointments.
