Police charge man in connection to stabbing in Ottawa’s Lowertown

Ottawa Police have laid charges in connection to a stabbing that happened on Murray Street in the Lowertown area near the Byward Market.

Police were called to the area near Cumberland Street between Dalhousie and King Edward Avenue at about 9:15 a.m. Friday after a man near a homeless shelter received a facial injury  stemming  from a a verbal altercation.

According to police, one of the men stabbed the other in the face with a knife, causing a laceration. 

The aggressor fled on foot.

The victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening. 

The follow-up investigation by the Central Investigations Section enabled front line officers to locate and make an arrest without incident.  

As result Donovan Bramwell, 48, of Ottawa was charged with:

  • assault with a weapon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon 
  • Breach of probation x 2

Bramwell is scheduled to appear in court  Saturday.
