Ottawa man charged after traffic stop in North Bay

A traffic stop by the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) on April 23 resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Ottawa. 

Kader Ismael, 28, of Ottawa, is charged with:

  • One count of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid
  • One count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • One count of personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
  • One count of driving while under suspension

Members of the NBPS responded to reports of a person operating a vehicle erratically while travelling on Lakeshore Drive in North Bay. A traffic stop was conducted at which point the accused provided false personal information to officers. At approximately 10:15 p.m.m the accused was arrested and a search incident to arrest located approximately 237 suspected hydromorphone pills.

In total, searches by police resulted in the seizure of:

  • Approximately 237 suspected hydromorphone pills
  • Approximately 22 grams of a suspected cutting agent
  • Approximately $175 in Canadian currency

The estimated street value of the drugs seized in this incident is approximately $3,550. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
