Police charge one man in relation to downtown sexual assault

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to an incident of sexual assault that took place earlier this month in downtown Ottawa.

On Oct. 14 at approximately 10:15 p.m., the victim was walking in the area of King Edward Avenue and Wilbroad Street when a man approached her from behind and forced her into a nearby alley.

Abel Hailu of Ottawa is charged with several criminal offences including sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Investigators believe there are may be other victims and have released a photo of the suspect in order to help identify other victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPS Sexual Assault Abuse Section at 613-236-1222, extension 5944.
