COVID-19 outbreaks at three Ottawa daycares

By OttawaMatters Staff

Three childcare centres in Ottawa have declared an outbreak of COVID-19.

The latest outbreak is at the Renee Tasse childcare centre at La Cité College where one staff member has tested positive.

Elsewhere, two staff members have at La Clémentine Michel Dupuis childcare centre tested positive, while one staff member and one child have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Pinecrest Queensway Head Start childcare centre.

The outbreaks come as the number of COVID-19 cases in children has been on the rise. Ottawa Public Health announced 22 laboratory-confirmed cases in children under the age of 10 in the last two weeks, along with 33 confirmed cases in kids aged 10-19.

As of Monday,  the number of kids in child-care centres is now allowed to increase across Ontario.

A maximum of 15 children — plus staff members — will be allowed in each so called “cohort.'' Previously, only ten children were allowed.

The groups must stay together throughout the program for at least seven days, and cannot mix with kids in different cohorts.
