Staff recommends Chiarelli be allowed access to Ottawa City Hall, but away from other councillors

By Chris Kurys

Ottawa City Council is about to decide whether or not to take further actions against embattled councillor Rick Chiarelli.

A staff report coming before council at Wednesday's meeting is recommending the city clerk take over the College Ward office budget and human resource matters. the report says Chiarelli's corporate credit card has already been revoked.

The clerk says council doesn't have the power to ban Chiarelli from city property, but that it would be reasonable to move his seat away from other councillors during meetings.

Chiarelli would have to provide notice to the clerk in advance if he wanted to attend any committee meetings, as he no longer holds a seat.

Council has already docked him 450 days pay for two separate integrity commissioner reports that found Chiarelli acted inappropriately and made sexualized comments toward women and former staffers.

Chiarelli has denied all allegations against him.
