Pair of Ottawa lottery wins bringing one closer to retirement, another closer to a new home

An Orléans woman and Vanier man are dreaming about what they're going to do with their lottery winnings.

Charlette Mallette matched five of five cards playing the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's (OLG)Poker Lotto on February 16, to win $100,000.

The 72-year-old grandmother said she was brushing her teeth one morning while her son was checking her tickets for her.

“He came to show me his phone – it was unbelievable,” exclaimed Mallette.

“This will bring me closer to retirement,” she said. “I'll pay some bills and consider all the options the future holds for me with this financial freedom.”

Meanwhile, Ernest Ouellette of Vanier picked some numbers in the OLG's Daily Keno draw back in Febraury and ended up winning $50,000.

The 73-year-old retired property manager volunteers with the homeless and helps bring seniors to doctor's appointments.

“I feel blessed,” he said “I'd like to share my winnings with others and purchase the less fortunate clothes, food and other items they need to survive and live life with dignity.”

Ouellette also plans on buying himself a small home.

Mallette's winning ticket was purchased at Mac's on Jeanne D'Arc Boulevard in Orléans, while Ouellette bought his at at Mac's on Montreal Road in Vanier.
