Gatineau police charge man in connection with recruitment of student to deal cannabis

A man from Toronto man is facing a slew of charges in connection with the alleged recruitment of a Gatineau high school student to sell drugs. 

In May of 2022, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) began investigating reports of a man who had been attempting to recruit teenagers to work as cannabis dealers. 

Police say the man would solicit teens at a business in the Masson-Angers sector, and would even provide potential recruits with free cannabis as of way of encouraging them to buy his products. 

According to the SPVG, the man was able to recruit at least one teenage girl to sell cannabis at school, and that he threatened her after school authorities found her to be in possession of the drug.

In early July, investigators identified a 41-year-old Toronto man who had recently settled in Gatineau, in the Masson-Angers sector, as a suspect.  
 
Police officer executed search warrants at two residences linked to the suspect and seized a number of cannabis products and accessories.

The suspect faces the following charges in connection with the investigation:

  • Possession of cannabis;
  • Distribution of cannabis to a minor;
  • Distribution of cannabis to a person over 18
  • Possession of cannabis with intent to distribute
  • Sale of cannabis to minors
  • Sale of cannabis to persons over 18
  • Distribution of illicit cannabis for sale
  • Assistance to a minor for the sale of cannabis
  • Provide cannabis as an incentive for the purchase of cannabis or an accessory
  • Uttering threats

The man has been released with condition on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
