Two people pulled from wreckage after two-vehicle crash in Orléans

By Alex Black

Two people had to be rescued by Ottawa emergency crews following a two-vehicle collision in Orléans.

Around 9:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to a call from the Ottawa Paramedic Service reporting a collision at the intersection of Trim Road and Portobello Boulevard.

The first OFS crew arrived on scene within five minutes of being dispatched and confirmed a two-vehicle collision. A white SUV was upside down on the roadway and two occupants were trapped.

In order to stabilize the SUV, firefighters used pre-cut pieces of wood, also known as 'cribbing' to fill the gaps between the vehicle and the ground. Firefighters then used specialized tools to remove sections of the vehicle and pull the two occupants to safety.

Both individuals were taken into the care of paramedics at the scene.

The second vehicle remained right side up and the lone occupant was able to exit on their own.
