The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says a cheddar cheese product is being recalled due to possible Listeria contamination.
Maple Dale Cheese Co. says it is recalling its 1 year old Cheddar, sold in Ontario in 235 gram packaging with a best before date of August 21, 2023. The affected product has the following UPC code: 6 23164 22235 6.
“Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness,” the CFIA said in a statement on Saturday. “In severe cases of illness, people may die.”
According to the CFIA there have been no reported illnesses associated with the recalled product.
The company says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
