For the third year in a row, Khalsa Aid Canada will be providing free winter jackets to international students in Ottawa.
The non-profit organization says eligible candidates must be international students who have been in Canada for under one year, are currently enrolled in college or university.
Students are have been in the country for more than one year are eligible if they did not receive a jacket in previous years.
The outwear will be given out on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Foster Farm Community Centre at 1065 Ramsey Crescent from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Khalsa Canada said many international students do not have proper gear for the Canadian winters and it is not easily affordable for many.
The organization said it will be providing 400 students with winter jackets along with a monthly grocery give away to support them financially.
The organization will also be connecting the students with the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) to help familiarize them with local rules and their rights, as well as resources to seek legal and immigration help.
Students will also be connected with Distress Centre Ottawa as many who are away from home experience mental health issues.
