Ottawa firefighters put out Vanier apartment fire

Firefighters were on scene Wednesday morning at an apartment complex to deal with a fire in the city’s northeast end.

Ottawa Fire Service (OFS) said they received multiple calls at 9:30 a.m. — including from the occupant whose unit was on fire.

Fire crews were on-scene at Deschamps Avenue between Desrosiers and Durocher streets by 9:34 a.m.

Firefighters said that heavy flames were visible from the second floor. OFS said they had the blaze under control within a half-hour.

OFS said an investigator was sent to the scene to determine the origin and cause.
