The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has charged a manager at a local landscaping company in relation to the death of an employee last year.
On May 5, 2023, Nicholas Chenier, 20, of Ottawa, died as a result of injuries sustained while working for Best Green Hedges Inc. in the south end of Ottawa.
A GoFundMe campaign started for his family said he was electrocuted when he hit a hydro wire that was buried within a hedge that grew around the wire he was working on.
His name has been released with permission from the family.
An investigation into the circumstances of the death was opened, one by police and one by the Ministry of Labour.
On Thursday, Apr. 25, the OPS charged Steven Deans, 38, of Ottawa, with one count of Criminal negligence causing death.
He will appear in court at a later date.
