Four people with ‘serious injuries’ after assaults on LRT, buses

One person has been arrested after assaulting four people on a light rail transit (LRT) train near Tunney’s Pasture yesterday and a bus.

According to OC Transpo, a train was held at Bayview Station around 10:50 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, due to a “security incident” involving a passenger who was assaulting riders.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) responded to the scene along with OC Transpo Special Constables to investigate.

In a press release on Tuesday, police said the suspect had assaulted four people while “uttering hate-filled comments” while riding various OC Transpo buses and trains between Algonquin College and Tunney’s Pasture.

Errol Rose, 26, of Ottawa was charged with:

  • Assault x2
  • Mischief, interference with lawful enjoyment of property x5
  • Assault with a weapon x2
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Possession of a weapon
  • Uttering threats
  • Fail to comply with a release order

Police said they will not disclose the type of weapon used in the assaults.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Officials say members of the public stopped to render first aid to the victim(s).

Investigators believe that there could be other incidents and are seeking further victims.
