Morrisburg residents seek shelter while police respond to armed individual

There is an active police presence in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Augusta Street in Morrisburg, approximately 80km south of Ottawa.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, OPP issued a public advisory for residents of the area to shelter in place and avoid the area.

In an update shortly before 7 a.m., police said they were responding to an armed individual in the area. Boaters were advised to steer clear of the Morrisburg boat launch and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

Around 7:50 a.m. the OPP announced that the shelter in place advisory had been lifted; however, police remain in the area to continue their investigation.

The OPP stated that during its interaction with the individual, a less-lethal device was discharged. The individual was taken into custody and transported to hospital.

Due to the discharge of the device, the Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and will begin an investigation.
