Controlled burn of fuel after truck rollover, spill in southeast Ottawa

Firefighters had to burn flammable fuel after a propane truck rolled over on a rural southeast Ottawa roadway on Tuesday.

Crews from the hazardous materials team were at the intersection of Russell and Ramsayville roads, just off Highway 417 and to the south of Hunt Club Road in the city’s east end. Officials said that the truck leaked liquid propane fuel along the stretch of highway.

Just before 7:45 p.m., Ottawa police said in a social media post that fire crews needed to conduct a controlled burn of the fuel. At the time, officers said it was expected to take about two hours but could last for longer.

Officials were called around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, and Nick DeFazio, Ottawa fire’s media relations officer, told CityNews Ottawa that around 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 2, firefighters were still on scene.

Ottawa police were also at the scene and are directing traffic away from the area of the crash. Both lanes were closed on Ramsayville Road.
