A powerful global movement is set to take place this weekend as organizations from across the globe stand in solidarity for social and environmental change.
Across Canada, the Draw the Line movement is demanding that the government commit to “a just and safe future for all,” according to its website.
The Ottawa-Gatineau movement is hoping to draw numbers akin to the 40,000 who took part in the inaugural 2019 climate strike. Marchers will converge at the U.S. Embassy and at the Canadian Tribute to Human Rights.
The Ottawa-Gatineau movement is coordinated in partnership with the Ottawa faction of Fridays For Future. The organization is getting a head start on its demands, organizing a ‘critical mass’ bike ride for Friday evening.
The ride will begin at Confederation Park at 6 p.m. and make its way to Parliament Hill where it’ll lap the legislature.
“Bring your bike, your friends, and your spirit of solidarity — together, we’ll ride for climate justice, Indigenous sovereignty, migrant justice, peace, and strong public services,” a notice from the organizers states.
