Child dead after collision with dump truck in Overbrook

Ottawa police are looking for witnesses to an incident that left a child dead on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were first called at 3:42 p.m. to a report of a collision involving a dump truck and a child in the 300 block of Presland Road in the Overbrook community.

Police and firefighters were first to respond and started treatment for a child under the age of 10, quickly followed by paramedics.

The child was in critical condition, paramedics told CityNews. Officials attempted life-saving measures on him at the scene and in the ambulance, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The situation prompted a closure of roads in the area while police conducted their investigation.

They are asking people who witnessed the incident or who could have footage of it, to bring it forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPS Fatal Collision Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 2345.

“The investigation is ongoing, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family,” officials said in a press release.
