Ottawa man among those charged after hazardous chemicals found near Western University: London police

An Ottawa man is facing numerous charges, including firearms related offences, following a trespassing incident at Western University in London, Ont.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 24, the London Police Service responded to assist the the university’s Special Constable Service who had a trespasser in custody following a foot pursuit on campus. Responding officers located a loaded handgun at the scene of the arrest.

Officers determined that a second suspect had been involved in the trespassing incident and further investigation led them to a residence near Chesham Avenue and Chesham Place.

At the residents, officers report finding hazardous chemicals capable of being used to create explosives. Two additional individuals were arrested.

The residence was secured and remains under police guard pending further investigation by the Major Crime Section.

Jerry Tong, 27, of Ottawa, was charged with the following:

  • Carry concealed weapon;
  • Carless use of a firearm;
  • Possess loaded regulated firearm;
  • Resist arrest;
  • Break and enter with intent; and
  • Occupy a motor vehicle with a firearm.

Following further investigation, Tong was further charged with one count of unlawful possession of explosives.

Zekun Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, all of London, are also facing charges in relation to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing with assistance from Ottawa Police Service, Gatineau Police Service, and the Sûreté du Québec. Police remain on scene at Chesham Avenue, and additional warrants have been executed in Ottawa and Gatineau, Quebec.
