20-year-old caught going 75 km/h over limit in east end

An officer pulled over a vehicle that was flying down an east Ottawa roadway going well above the limit.
On Monday, police were on Trim Road trying to proactively slow drivers down in a busy stretch of the area. One officer clocked a car going through the area — a 60 km/h limit — speeding 135 km/h.
After stopping the vehicle, police said the 20-year-old driver is facing several charges including:
- Stunt driving / excessive speeding
- Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
- Fail to apply for a permit upon becoming an owner
- Plate not plainly visible
The driver lost his licence immediately for the next month, and the vehicle was towed from the scene for two weeks.
“Travelling at 135 km/h in a 60 km/h Community Safety Zone is extremely dangerous. Speeding at this level is not just a traffic violation, it puts lives at risk,” Staff Sergeant Denis Hull, east district neighbourhood policing, said.
If convicted, the driver faces a $2,000 to $10,000 fine, six demerit points and a year-long licence suspension.
Driving a vehicle with no insurance is a minimum $5,000 fine.
