Horwath wants feedback from Ontarians on budget

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said Friday she wants to consult with Ontarians before deciding whether or not she should support the provincial budget.
The party has set up a website for people to submit their comments.
Finance Minister Charles Sousa said the budget, which was unveiled Thursday, addressed many of the items on the NDP’s wish list, including a cut in auto insurance premiums, higher welfare rates and increased spending on homecare services for seniors.
Sousa said it meets their requests, and he expects the NDP to work with the Liberals to get the budget passed.
The governing minority Liberals need the support of the NDP to avoid an election, since PC Leader Tim Hudak has already said the Conservatives will vote to defeat the minority government.
Horwath admits the budget reflects her party’s priorities, but is worried about vague wording on such things as the auto insurance cut.
Hudak said he can’t see how Horwath can blast the government for wasting $585 million to cancel gas plants to save Liberal seats, and then turn around and prop up the government by supporting the budget.
