Turn out at public garbage pickup consultations under-whelming

For all the gnashing of teeth over the City of Ottawa’s suggestion to increase green bin use and shift garbage pick up to bi-weekly, it appears the nay-sayers had little time for the issue last night.

Two of the four public meetings were under-whelmingly attended.

In some cases, the number of city staff vastly outnumbered the residents.

One North Gower resident who attended the open house in Manotick said he didn’t like how the program was forced on citizens.

“I don’t see any environmental improvements with the green bin in terms of the extra trucks on the road pulling these things around, there’s health concerns with these things being in garages and of animals in the street getting in to them,” said the concerned man.

There are two more meetings this evening at the Kanata Rec Center in the West end and the Shenkman Arts Centre in the East.

The issue goes to the environmental committee on Monday for city council approval later this month.
