Canadian Toy Testing Council releases this year’s top toys

Make your list and check it twice, the Canadian Toy Testing Council released this year’s top toys and books on Tuesday, just in time for holiday shopping season.

“This year’s list really demonstrates the Canadian Toy Testing Council’s belief in learning through play,” says Liliane Benoit, executive director at CTTC. “We know that parents want toys and books that enlighten and educate. We also know that children want toys and books that are engaging and fun. This year’s award-winning toys and books do both.”

Every year the CTTC objectively evaluate 300 to 500 new and innovative toys and books. The lucky testers play with the toys in everyday settings through a 6 to 8 week testing period.

Katrina has been testing toys now for six years.

“Most toys you can tell just by looking at them,” she says. “Other toys, once you test them you figure out what they’re all about.”

Ten toys took home Children’s Choice Awards, but Crayola Canada was the big winner. The Glow Book scored big points with boys six and up, while the jewelry boutique caught the attention of girls.

The CTTC looks at design, function, battery consumption, durability, safety and play value when evaluating toys.
