Driver killed in Queensway crash had been drinking

22 year old Eli Massih, who was killed on Saturday in a crash on the Queensway, had been drinking at a party beforehand.

The party’s host, 19-year-old Victoria Casanova, told the Citizen they had finished a 26-ounce bottle of whiskey.

Afterwards, while several friends took cabs to a bar, Massih got into his car without anyone noticing.

Casanova said Massih called about an hour later to say he needed directions back to her place. She said he sounded fine.

Six minutes later he crashed head on with a mazda as he drove the wrong way on the 417 westbound, near Bronson. The two people in the other car were rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition.

A visitation for Massih will be held Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 5pm, then 7 to 9pm in the evening at the Kelly funeral home. He will be laid to rest at the Orleans United Church, 1111 Orleans Blvd, Thursday at 2pm.
