How often do men think about sex?

A new Ohio State University study debunks the stereotype that men think about sex every seven seconds.

Within 16 waking hours, that would amount to more than eight-thousand times a day.

The study involved female and male college students who were randomly assigned to record their thoughts about food, sleep or sex.

The research finds college-aged men thought about sex on average about 19 times per day, compared with thinking about food 18 times per day and sleep almost 11 times per day.

The women in the study reported thinking about food the most — at about 15 times a day — while thoughts of sex occurred nearly 10 times per day and sleep about eight and a-half times a day.

The study is on the Ohio State University website and will be in the January issue of the Journal of Sex Research.
