MPPs to vote on auto insurance rate change bill

TORONTO, Ont. – A private member’s bill designed to change the way auto insurance rates are calculated will be up for a vote at Queen’s Park, Thursday.

The NDP bill calls for premiums to be set based on a driver’s safety record and not where they live.

Currently, insurance companies charge drivers higher premiums if they live in the GTA or other large urban areas.

If the bill passes second reading it then goes to committee, where changes could be made.
