A Falcon 20 has been selected as the plane to make the inaugural test flight because of its similarities to commercial aircraft.
In its tank will be 100 per cent bio jet fuel derived from a mustard seed like oil seed called carinata according to Steven Fabijanski of Agrisoma Biosciences which developed the fuel.
“It’s very hearty, drought tolerant, heat resistant plant”.
It’s currently being grown on six thousand acres in the Prairie provinces and if successful, could expand to 3 million acres. Fabijanski said it could eventually protect the aviation industry from wild swings in fuel prices.
“I think that will translate into a more profitable and stable industry which we hope will be translated into price”.
The flight will take place over Ottawa in late October.
