Accused killer Adam Picard to file for second stay of murder charge

By OttawaMatters Staff

OTTAWA – Adam Picard is expected to file for a second stay of his first-degree murder charge.

The accused killer won stay back in 2016 on the grounds of an unreasonable delay, after spending four years in jail awaiting trial.

Back in September, Ontario’s Court of Appeal ordered a new murder trial for the ex-soldier, charged in connection with the death of Fouad Nayel in 2012.

Now that the trial has hit another delay, the Ottawa Citizen says Picard is seeking another ‘Jordan Decision.’

The paper says the delay was granted to give Picard’s legal team more time to prepare. The trial has been bumped from April until September.

Picard, 34, was first arrested in December 2012 in the killing of Nayel, who police believe died the day he went missing in June of that year.
