Applications for the 2020 Paint It Up! program through the City of Ottawa and Crime Prevention Ottawa are now open.

The program, now in its 11th year, offers funding for outdoor mural projects that help support youth empowerment, community safety and graffiti prevention.

Since the program started in 2010, more than 2,600 youth between the ages of 12 and 25 have worked on 82 projects across the city with an average project grant of $5,000.

According to the City of Ottawa, these murals have helped manage graffiti vandalism while supporting arts and culture, contributing to economic development and providing opportunities for youth.

Applications are available on the Crime Prevention Ottawa website or by calling 311. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m.

The rules state that “projects must contribute to a clean, safe and beautiful city by engaging neighbourhoods and youth at risk in a constructive learning process to create murals to prevent or deter graffiti.”

Each project must involve a pre-approved mural location, a non-profit organization with expertise in youth, an artist or arts organization with expertise in murals and a presentative of the proposed location of the  mural.

Those who are interested are invited to attention an information session. The first session is on February 25 at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall; the second is February 27 at 5:30 p.m. at 1480 Heron Road in the St-Laurent Room.

RSVP by emailing CPO@Ottawa.ca or call 613-580-2424 ext. 25393.
