Bulk of 2023 OPH budget still COVID-19 related

By CityNews Ottawa

COVID-19 continues to chew up the bulk of Ottawa Public Health's budget, taking up $51 million of the $128 million budget presented for 2023.

On Monday, Jan. 30, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) presented its draft budget for the year.

With costs associated to COVID-19 accounting for more than a third of the total amount, the budget shows how much a concern the pandemic remains for the city's public health agency.

The remainder of the budget, $77 million, will go towards covering base programs, salaries, benefits and other operational costs.

All 'one-time' pandemic related expenditures are to be covered by the provincial government, as well as 70 per cent of the rest of the budget with the city covering the rest.

OPH is expected to vote on the budget at their next meeting in February. City budgets are too be approved by Mar. 1.
