ByWard Market shooting leaves man in his 20s dead

Ottawa police attended the ByWard Market at 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning after reports of a shooting. 

Once on scene, police located the victim and transported him to hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

One person has been taken into custody. 

Major crimes confirm to 1310 NEWS the victim is a man in his 20's and they are on scene conducting a homicide investigation.

Police say they will be on scene for a few hours for the investigation. 

An SUV with its windows smashed out has been cordoned off by police tape on York Street near Cumberland. It's believed to be part of this morning's homicide investigation.

Westbound York Street is closed from King Edward to Cumberland and York Street is also closed from Sussex Drive to the ByWard Market Square.
