Carleton Place moves to allow backyard hens

By Alex Black

Carleton Place residents can now apply to keep hens in their backyard.

Carleton Place Town Council has approved a bylaw to permit and regulate backyard hens within town boundaries.

The initial application fee is $100 per household, with an annual renewal fee of $30.

Roosters are not permitted.

The Animal Control bylaw in Carleton Place has also been amended to factor in the change.
