By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa city council has appointed Cathy Curry to represent the residents of Kanata North until next year's municipal election.

More than 20 people put their names forward in a bid to take over the city council seat vacated by Jenna Sudds, who was elected MP for the area in September's federal election.

Curry has represented Kanata North as an Ottawa Carleton District School Board Trustee in the past, and served as chair of the OCDSB Board of Trustees for a period of time. She has also served on the Ottawa Children’s Treatment Centre Board, the CHEO board, the Ronald McDonald House Ottawa board, the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Children and Youth Mental Health Strategic Advisory Committee, the Ottawa Community Foundation’s Grants’ Committee, the Caldwell Family Centre Board and the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Board.

The former school teacher grew up in Toronto, completed a Bachelor’s of English Language and Literature at the University of Western Ontario and a Masters of Science in Education at Niagara University, moved to Boston and eventually ended up in Ottawa, where her husband had grown up.

City council appointed Curry at its meeting on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
