Certain Manila clams recalled; could lead to shellfish poisoning

Evergreen International Foodstuffs Ltd. is issuing a food recall of certain clams.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says, due to a marine biotoxin that could cause Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, certain Manila clams are being pulled from the marketplace.

According to the CFIA, some of the Manila clams may have also been sold without a label and may not bear the same brand, product name, or code as described below:

The products were distributed in Ontario, Calgary, British Columbia — and possibly nationally. 

Anyone with the recalled product in their home should throw the product away or return it to the store they purchased it from. 

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning can cause tingling and numbness of the lips, tongue, hands and feet, and difficulty swallowing. In severe situations, PSP can cause difficulty walking, muscle paralysis, respiratory paralysis and death.
