Chris Phillips resigns from Senators Community Foundation

By CityNews Ottawa

Former Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips is stepping down from his role as executive director of the Senators Community Foundation.

The former Ottawa Senators Foundation announced split with the hockey club after more than 22 years in June of 2020 and rebranded itself as the Ottawa-Gatineau Youth Foundation. The Senators Community Foundation was launched soon afterward and named Phillips its executive director in August of last year.

According to Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman, the foundation let go of senior director Brad Weir last week. He had been hired a month after Phillips last year, and it is believed Phillips resigned due to that move.

Phillips has yet to comment publicly about his resignation. The Athletic's Ian Mendes was the first to break the news.

The Senators Community Foundation supports causes such as CHEO, the Roger Neilson House, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ottawa and many others.
