City names new fire chief

By Jenn Pritchard

The search for Ottawa's new fire chief went country-wide but in the end, they chose to promote from within.

Kim Ayotte, a 29-year veteran of the Ottawa Fire Service, had been acting chief since Gerry Pingitore's retirement in April 2018.

For the last 15 years, Ayotte has been a member of the management team and has held every Deputy Chief position within the service.

Mayor Jim Watson praised Ayotte for being bilingual and for his positive relationships both within the fire service but also with many members of the community.
