A three-alarm fire in Vanier Thursday night destroyed a commercial building on Montreal Road that housed two businesses, Capital City Pawn and 220 Volt Depot.
Around 7 p.m., an employee from one of the businesses inside the building at 81 Montreal Road called Ottawa fire to report haze coming from the store but could not determine its origin.
As crews arrived on the scene, smoke and flame conditions continued to worsen, and a second alarm fire was declared.
Montreal Road had to be closed between North River Road and the Vanier Parkway, while crews battled the blaze. OC Transpo is being forced to detour around the area.

A short while later, firefighters were forced to evacuate the building, as the structure started to show signs of collapse. That's when crews declared the third alarm.
No injuries have been reported.
The building will be demolished due to extensive damage. An estimate of those damages is not yet known.
A fire investigator has been called in to determine the cause.
