Costco Wholesale creates nearly 150 jobs in Ottawa with new Canadian Business Centre

Costco Wholesale has opened a Canadian Business Centre location in Ottawa, the third in Canada and second in Ontario. 

The 123,000 square-foot facility is located on Cyrville Road at Innes Road, in Gloucester, and has created close to 150 local jobs, with more to be added over the years. 

“If I look at the unit that we have in Toronto, that's been open for three-and-a-half years, we now have over 300 employees in that location,” said Marc-André Bally, Vice President of Business Centres and Ancillary Businesses, Costco Wholesale Canada. “So the 150 for now is the lowest point, we start like this, and we're going to add for sure.”

“I am very proud that Costco Wholesale Canada has chosen Gloucester as its third Business Centre location in the country,” said Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. “The creation of 140 local jobs and the added convenience of this one-stop shop is welcome news for both the residents and the business community in Ottawa.”

In a release, Costco says the Business Centre concept is 'vastly different' from the traditional Costco warehouse, with more than 70 per cent of the product offerings unique to the Business Centre and targeted to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes.

Costco says customers will find the same items available both online(link) and in-store, with hours of Monday-to-Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The location also offers next-business-day delivery to commercial addresses inside of a delivery zone extending across the National Capital Region.

The Gloucester location officially opened at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 4.

“We are thrilled to open our doors and offer this new service, which will better respond to the needs of local business owners,” said Bally.

The first Business Centre opened in Scarborough in March 2017, while a second location open in Saint-Hubert, Quebec in the fall of 2020. The multi-national corporation says the Business Centre in Ottawa is part of a Costco national expansion plan, with additional locations planned across Canada in 2021.

Costco Wholesale Business Centres are open to all Costco members.
