An Ottawa city councillor is weighing in on a proposal to offer a large tax break for a new airport hotel.
Speaking on the Sam Laprade Show on Tuesday, March 28, Rideau-Jock ward councillor David Brown said he has concerns about the $13-million tax break proposed for a new 180-room hotel planned for the Ottawa International Airport.
Brown adds, while he believes in economic diversity, he is not in favor of this proposal because it doesn't bode well for taxpayers during a time when the cost of living is so high.
“I think at the end of the day we should help business in Ottawa and we want them to be successful because growing economic development helps add to a stable city,” said Brown.
Brown said the role of council is to continue to build on the existing infrastructure in the city, rather than take away from city funds.
The city's finance and corporate services committee is set to debate the proposal on Tuesday, April 4.
