École secondary publique de la Salle set to open doors to new addition in 2021-2022 school year

The new addition to the École secondaire publique de la Salle under the Conseil des Écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario will soon be opening its doors to students.

On Friday, November 26, the Ontario government announced that the new addition, which cost $13.3 million to build, is now complete and will be open for the 2021-2022 school year.

Located at 501 Patrick Street, the new addition is part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to build and improve local schools to provide a new, quality learning environment for the students of Ottawa, the government said.

The project is part of Ontario’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

“[The] announcement is incredible news for Ottawa students and families,” Sam Oosterhoff, the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Education Stephen Lecce, said in a statement. “Building a new École secondaire publique de la Salle, adding a new gymnasium and renovating the Centre d’excellence artistique will provide students with modern facilities they deserve to flourish in their artistic and sports pursuits.”

The build includes 210 secondary student spaces, the new gym and major renovations to enhance the artistique centre.

The new premises, which also include eight specialized classrooms, two professional studios dedicated to the arts, the gym and a weight room, will also allow students to flourish in a modern learning environment, Denis Chartrant, chair of Conseil des Écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, said.

The Ontario government has allocated more than $600 million to support ventilation improvements in schools across Ontario as part of its plan for a safer return to school.

According to the government, the Conseil des Écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario has received an investment of $3.8 million for ventilation improvements has over 300 HEPA filter units in place.
