Farmers coming to Parliament Hill to support trucker convoy over weekend

By Dani-Elle Dubé

The “Freedom Convoy” protest is getting more support in the way of farmers.

A Facebook group called the Farmer Convoy of Ottawa 2.0 said it will be joining in on the demonstrations on Saturday, February 5.

The tractor convoy originates in the North Glengarry village of Alexandria, with the Facebook group hosting about 2,400 members as of about noon on Thursday, February 3.

The group’s description said it will “keep it peaceful,” but support the truckers.

It’s unknown just how many tractors will be joining the protest in the city when the weekend rolls around.

In an update to media on Wednesday, February 2, Ottawa police said they were anticipating more big rigs coming to the city over the weekend to carry on the protest.

This, police added, will continue to snarl traffic and increase public safety concerns.
